DESCRIPTION

The American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Blended Learning course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to assess, recognize, and care for adult/child/infant patients who are experiencing respiratory arrest or respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, airway obstruction, opioid overdose or other life-threatening injury or illness. When a patient experiences a life-threatening emergency, healthcare providers need to act swiftly and promptly. The course emphasizes providing high-quality care and integrating psychomotor skills with critical thinking and problem solving to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

 

LENGTH

Online: approximately 1-2 hours (varies)
In Person: 2 hours, 15 minutes

 

INTENDED AUDIENCE

Medical personnel, such as physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, nurse assistants, dentists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and students entering the field.

Public safety personnel and other professional responders, such as paramedics, advanced emergency medical technicians (AEMTs), emergency medical technicians (EMTs), firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical responders (EMRs) and students entering the field.

 

PREREQUISITES

None.

 

REQUIREMENTS

Participants must: 

  • Successfully complete the online session, including each lesson and the online final exam with a minimum passing grade of 84 percent.
  • Attend the in-person skills session and actively participate in all course activities, including assuming various roles during skill practices and assessment scenarios.
  • Demonstrate competency in all required skills.
  • Successfully complete the Team Response Testing Scenarios as a team leader.

 

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion, participants will be issued a digital certificate by email from the American Red Cross that is valid for 2 years.
